The Mysterious Carteret Lights And The Morris Booms Of July 2001
An article appeared in a Morris County newspaper on July 14, 2001 about mysterious booms that were heard throughout the area. Apparently the police received dozens of calls that day from residents reporting booms in the northern part of the county. Montville police stated that there were “Too many (calls) to count.” Police officials still have not determined what caused the thunderous sounds.
This bit of information about the mysterious booms was quickly forgotten when two days later, on July 16, the media blitz was all over mysterious lights that had appeared in the skies above Carteret (Middlesex County) around 12:40 am.
Carteret police dispatchers said that at least 15 calls came into the station reporting orange flares or “orbs” floating above the Arthur Kill. The lights, more than a dozen of them, all in a “V-shaped” formation, had at least 75 cars pulled over on the New Jersey Turnpike to witness the strange spectacle.
Some witnesses claimed that the orbs were not in formation when they first saw the strange lights, but rather were floating freely, only later to form a V-shaped pattern and move off in formation. The lights were clearly visible for over 10 minutes, and were witnessed by police officers, residents and highway travelers, and were even captured by some on home video tape.
Police could not identify the source of the lights. Newark International Airport, which is located not far from the area of the sightings, reported no unusual flight patterns, and the National Weather Service claimed nothing in the atmosphere could have caused the bright lights. When contacted, McGuire Air Force Base officials said none of their military planes were in the vicinity at the time of the sighting. The National Weather Service in Mt. Holly could not explain it.
Might there be some kind of connection between the mysterious Morris County booms and the sighting of the Carteret Lights? Could the UFOs have been breaking the sound barrier over Morris County two days earlier?
Just Above the Treetops Over Cannistear Road (Passaic/Sussex County)
Last July, I was driving along Route 23 heading towards Vernon Township through the normal stops of Butler, West Milford, etc. To get to Highland Lakes, you have to go past two reservoirs nd then make a right onto Cannistear Road, which is about five or six miles of nothing but trees and sharp turns. It was around 10 pm on a Sunday, so it wasn’t like there were many people out and about. I drive a Jeep Wrangler and it was a warm enough night to take the soft top down.
About five minutes into driving on Cannistear, a slow illumination started to come out from above the trees to my left. Next thing I knew, the power went out on the Jeep! I had just purchased it, so I found it hard to believe it was a mechanical issue. It took me about another 30 seconds to realize I was witnessing something extraordinary. This bright, triangle-shaped object with six red dots was inching itself overhead. It had to be at most 500 feet above me because it didn’t clear the heads of the trees by much. The object and its light display moved slowly towards the southeast. What struck me at this moment was that this huge object did not emit any sound!
Here’s the freaky part: when the illumination was gone, my power came back on, the car was idling and it was like nothing had happened, to the car at least. –Kerry

Morristown—On June 5, 2007 at 10 pm, I looked out my bathroom window and saw a VERY bright hovering light. I went to open the window because it got cool out and noticed an extremely bright light in the sky. It looked like a star but WAY too close. I observed it for about two minutes before I went and got my binoculars. Once I saw it through the specs I knew I had to try and film it. I have seen this kind of thing before here and I live very close to Picatinny Arsenal. It might be something from there? I don’t know. I got my camera and zoomed in and knew this was no star or airplane. I definitely felt relieved that I caught it on tape, because I knew none of my friends would believe me. So in the AM, I will get it uploaded and send it on over. It was still there when my tape ran out. I’m a degreed Educator. The object brightened and pulsated, and would go down in size to a pin head then swell and change color.
