Celebrate people! We now have a place to go after 2012! A mere 40 million light years away from Earth, a, “super-Earth exoplanet” named GJ 1214b is 2.7 times the Earth’s radius and 6.6 times the Earth’s mass. It has a small, cool parent star that it orbits once every 1.6 days and is thought to have temperatures around 200 degrees Celsius. Did I mention it has large oceans of what seems to be water? I just read a pretty amazing Naturals Geographic article online declaring the discovery a huge, ancient Mayan metropolis. Basically, they used lasers in the sky to “scan” the terrain below them (digital removing the dense jungle foliage) and they uncovered the outlines and shape of a massive Mayan metropolis which included many buildings, roads and other tell tale feature of a city and make a 3-D image of it. These lasers did in days what it would have taken archeologists of yesteryear at least a decade, if not multiple decades to complete! Sorry Dr. Jones, but your days are up. Glad you nabbed the crystal skull cashola before lasers made you obsolete. Maybe soon you can do a movie about getting old but living it up with Rambo and the Terminato. But for now you’re being served your pink slip, but thanks for the memories…
